Sequencing Mastery
Based on the standard format for rhythm recording, the TR-REC behavior has been faithfully modeled on the TR-8, but goes beyond the original with performance / programming modes and rhythmic variations, glitches, and fills.
Classic Sounds
Roland obsessively analyzed and recreated every detail and nuance of the analog circuitry of these legendary rhythm machines-the boom and snap of the 808; the thud of the 909; the robotic click of an 808 rim shot or a classic 909 snare roll.
Modern Features
Scatter is a performance function for real-time control over variations in patterns and any external input. Scatter can reverse, glitch, gate, truncate, stutter, and perform all manner of rhythmic variations from subtle to extreme, and all in perfect sync.

"There isn't much one can say about the Roland AIRA TR-8 that isn't obvious. Recreating the 808 and 909 in one unit should have a pricetag three times what they charge for the TR-8. I got the 7x7 expansion pack, which adds the sounds of the Roland 707 and 727, as well as expands upon the 808 nand 909 stock sounds with a few more sounds that were only accessible via modded 808's and 909's before now. NOT getting the 7x7 expansion is a crime, as it doubles the sounds of the unit instantly. And if you don't know, you do not have to sequence usng only the 808 sounds or 727 sounds. Yopu can have the 808 kick, the 707 snare, claps from the 909, the Hi-Tom can be from the 727, and so on- all in one sequence. This leads to exponentially more possibilities with this iconic machine. Integrating the TR-8 with the TB-3, or the MX-1 Performance mixer, or into Ableton Live with aqny combination of the above just brings the TR-8 (yet again) to another level of production / Live play capability. The TR-8 is also EASY to learn. It truely is intuative and can be learned in about ten minutes by watching videos on YouTube either by Roland, or by any of the hundreds of others who have flocked to the internet to post "How I Play" type lessons. This is one of the most fun pieces of gear I have ever touched. Adding more pieces of the AIRA line only makes it better. If you're on the fence about getting a TR-8 vs. ANY other similarly priced piece of gear, get to the TR-8 side of that fence immediately. You won't be sorry."
"Well, I just received my TR-8 and I couldn't ask for more. Outstanding quality, very light... The controls are really nice. I'm still leaning how to play with it, but it's very easy to set up to integrate with your DAW or play it alone. "
